Municipal Energy PlanningDawson Creek began its municipal energy planning in 2005 with a baseline
assessment of its energy consumption in municipal buildings, fleets and
services. The report found that Dawson Creek's corporate services
had emitted 2,346 tonnes of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in 2004. In 2007 an energy audit was completed on the South Peace Community Multiplex
which identified another 1,076 tonnes of GHGs, bringing
the City's total to 3,422 tonnes. The chart below illustrates where these emissions come from. In order to reduce these emissions, Dawson Creek has to becoming carbon neutral in its municipal operations by 2012. In order to meet this target, Dawson Creek has been engaged in a number of activities to reduce consumption of the three main energy sources: |
