Gasoline and Diesel

The majority of the transportation fuel consumed in Dawson Creek is gasoline or diesel. Both of these fuels currently make a significant contribution to Dawson Creek's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and impact local air quality.

GHGs from total community gasoline and diesel use (2006): 48,016 tonnes

Idling reduction

Dawson Creek has started an idling reduction program for all of its vehicle fleet in conjunction with the Fraser Basin Council's Idle-free BC program.

Green Vehicle Policy

  • Dawson Creek adopted a Green Vehicle Purchasing Policy  (113 KB) that outlines guidelines for vehicle purchasing, operation and maintenance. The City is also committed to using biodiesel where sustainable sources are available.

Life Cycle Analysis Tool

In tandem with the Green Vehicle Policy, the Vehicle Life Cycle Cost Analysis Tool  (48 KB) guides the City's vehicle purchase decisions by including the full cost of operating a vehicle over its lifetime. It also incorporates a cost for GHG emissions.

Education

Dawson Creek has been working in conjunction with NEAT (Northern Environmental Action Team) to provide education to City staff on a variety of sustainability issues, including idle reduction.
