Transportation
Goal: To develop an environmentally-friendly, community-oriented
transportation system.
Why is this important?
- Transportation options are
critical in a sustainable community. An environmentally friendly,
community-oriented transportation system, bicycle pathways, and increased
walkability are all key transportation components.
- A good transportation system
will increase access for all citizens in reliable, safe, affordable
and convenient ways.
- In smaller, rural communities, public transportation
systems will not likely replace all personal vehicle travel in
the foreseeable future. Even so, increasing public transit helps
communities tackle greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and air quality
issues that result from the use of personal vehicles.
Where are we now?
Dawson Creek has a bus system with 3 buses serving the community.
Bus
Line Info
The Kin Park walking/biking trail system has greatly increased the
walkability of the city. The trail follows Dawson Creek, from the east
edge of the city, through Kin Park in the centre of town and westward
into an undeveloped natural area, arriving at Rotary Lake and Pioneer
Village, northwest of town.

How are we doing?
The community's sustainability plan will also outline a series of indicators
so that progress toward sustainability can be measured over time.
It is expected that the indicators will be available by the end of
2008.
What are we doing to improve?
Transportation Plan
Dawson Creek has committed to creating a Transportation Plan for the
