Waste
Why is this important?
- Increasing the diversion of waste from landfills
is a key component to sustainability.
- Aside from the environmental
impacts of the landfills themselves, waste represents untapped
energy and resources that could be used more effectively.
- Waste can be
separated and diverted to composting or recycling or used to
create energy to reduce the amount that ends up in landfills.
Where are we now?
Dawson Creek is a leader in recycling. In 2008, the community of 12,000
recycled 4602 tonnes of waste, more than any other community in the
Peace Region of BC.
How are we doing?
The community's sustainability plan will also outline a series of indicators
so that progress toward sustainability can be measured over time.
It is expected that the indicators will be available by the end of
2008.
