Economic Development
Goal: To develop a robust economy that sustains the community’s
goals.
Why is the Economy Important?
A vibrant, healthy economy is an essential part of "sustainability".
A sustainable community
- offers many opportunities for investment, business and employment
- supports a diverse and prosperous community
- encourages business practices and other systems that enhance environmental
and economic performance.
Where are we now?
Dawson Creek's economy is currently thriving. Capitalizing and building on
successes in the oil and gas and tourism sectors has been a core focus on
economic activity lately. In a growth situation, our main objective is to
ensure that we build businesses and employment opportunities that will support
our community in the long term, while also ensuring that we maintain a healthy
environment to support our community in the long term.
How are we doing?
The community's sustainability plan will also outline a series of indicators
so that progress toward sustainability can be measured over time. It is expected
that the indicators will be available by the end of 2008.
